U Visa

The U visa is a nonimmigrant visa for the United States, intended for individuals who have been victims of certain crimes and who have cooperated with U.S. authorities in the investigation or prosecution of the crime. This visa provides temporary legal status and allows beneficiaries to remain in the U.S. while assisting authorities in the investigation.

Basic requirements to apply for a U Visa:

1. Be a victim of a qualifying crime : You must have been a victim of a qualifying crime, such as physical or emotional abuse, kidnapping, human trafficking, domestic violence, among others.
2. Cooperate with the investigation or prosecution : You must have assisted or be willing to assist authorities in the investigation or prosecution of the crime of which you were a victim.
3. Suffer physical or mental harm : You must have suffered physical or psychological harm as a result of the crime.
4. Being out of status : In some cases, the U Visa is also available to people who are in the U.S. without legal status.
